Rug Lab, Rug-Making Studio

Brand and Content Project

Working with Rug Lab, a creative rug-punching studio in the heart of Bridport, we developed a cohesive visual identity rooted in structure, warmth, and playfulness. Taking inspiration from the Bauhaus movement and its 1970s revival, we designed a set of brand guidelines that balance boldness with approachability, reflecting Rug Lab’s dedication to creativity, self-expression, and community. Alongside this, we created a series of branded social media posts and a long-form video for their Crowdfunder campaign, setting the stage for their launch with storytelling that inspires and invites.

The Brand

Inspired by the transformation of the Bauhaus movement into the playful warmth of 1970s modernism, Rug Lab’s brand identity reflects a perfect balance between structure and freedom. The colour palette combines nostalgic primary tones with softer, earthy hues, creating a warm, adaptable aesthetic that feels both vibrant and inviting. Typography blends handwritten, yarn-like movement with hints of 1970s vintage styles, while clean, rounded body text ensures clarity and modernity. To visually represent Rug Lab’s focus on craft and creativity, we reimagined the bold line graphics of the 1970s, transforming them into intertwined shapes that symbolise threads crossing paths and forming something new. This approach captures Rug Lab’s mission to foster exploration, self-expression, and community, providing an accessible and empowering space where creativity flows freely.

Content

For Rug Lab, we created a series of introductory social media posts designed to inform and inspire their audience ahead of the studio’s launch. These posts introduced Louise Riley, the artist and founder behind Rug Lab, while highlighting the studio’s mission, the workshops and memberships on offer, and the importance of the funded sessions for under-25s—an initiative central to their crowdfunder campaign. Each post was carefully crafted to be simple, informative, and visually aligned with Rug Lab’s brand style, balancing creativity with clarity. In addition to the social content, we designed a poster for their soft launch and produced a four-and-a-half-minute video for the crowdfunder. Filmed and edited in the Rug Lab studio, the video showcased Louise’s vision as a founder, the hands-on rug-making process, and the inviting, collaborative spirit of the space. This thoughtful and cohesive content set the stage for Rug Lab’s launch, capturing their unique story and purpose.
