Red Brick Cafe
Branding, Website, Content Project
The Red Brick Café is a colorful and eclectic spot that has built a reputation as a warm and welcoming community hub. Located in a heritage area with unique riverside seating, the café draws a diverse clientele—from older locals looking for comfort in home-cooked dishes to younger families enjoying a friendly, laid-back atmosphere. Known for its seasonal, ever-changing menus, Red Brick Café offers a taste of homemade comfort in a charming setting. However, the café’s website wasn’t fully reflecting the lively, vibrant spirit of the café, and the owners sought a refreshed brand and improved online presence to better connect with their audience.
The Brand
The main goal of the branding project was to align Red Brick Café’s online presence with its in-person experience. The previous website didn’t capture the bustling, wholesome vibe of the café or convey its eclectic style. To solve this, we began by creating a comprehensive brand pitch, complete with a mood board, a curated color palette, and a set of fonts and logos that mirrored the café’s charm. Drawing inspiration from the traditional hand-painted sign on the café’s facade and the cozy, lively atmosphere inside, we developed a branding foundation that encapsulated the Red Brick Café experience.
By using warm, contrasting colors that reflected both the traditional sign and the café's eclectic interior, we crafted a brand identity that felt vibrant, inviting, and true to the café's roots. This updated branding would serve as the foundation for their digital and physical marketing materials, ensuring consistency across all platforms.
The logo design process focused on translating the iconic hand-painted sign into a digital format. Previously, the café used this sign as their logo, but it was not easily adaptable for various marketing purposes. I replicated the essence of the sign while simplifying it for versatility—creating a cleaner, more modern graphic. This design retained the nostalgic, traditional feel of the original while offering a more flexible format for digital and print use. Additionally, I created a compact version of the logo, giving Red Brick Café the ability to use it across different platforms and marketing materials with ease.
Brand Logos
The website redesign focused on enhancing user experience while aligning with Red Brick Café’s newly established brand identity. Built on Wix, the previous site was functional but lacked the visual appeal and ease of use that the café needed. We developed a new website layout with a simple, user-friendly structure, making it easier for customers to navigate, book tables, and find key information. The new design incorporated block color backgrounds with hand-drawn illustrations of vegetables and dishes, capturing the café’s personality and quirky style. The vibrant color palette ensured a consistent, lively feel throughout the site, bringing the Red Brick Café experience to life online.
Another key focus was back-end usability and providing the café team with tools and training to manage the website themselves. They now have the confidence to easily update menus, special events, and other information as needed, giving them more independence and reduced the need for external support.
The Website
Content
In addition to the website design, we handled content creation, including all the website’s written content and a food photography shoot that captured the essence of the café’s homemade dishes and cozy interior. Over an afternoon, we photographed the café's seasonal dishes, riverside seating, and charming decor. These images were not only featured on the new website but also became a valuable resource for their social media platforms. These visual assets will help to elevate the café’s online presence, giving potential customers a true sense of the welcoming atmosphere and delicious food they could expect.
